Tai-Jutsu

'Bujutsu shogei no chichihaha wa taijutsu nari', translated means 'Tai-Jutsu is the mother and father of all martial arts'.

Tai-Jutsu is a relatively unknown martial art of the Koryu (old arts). The term Tai-Jutsu refers to 'Body Art' or 'Body Movement' and is believed to be the martial art from which Ju-Jitsu was developed. Others also agree it was the unarmed fighting skills from the Ninjutsu systems.

There are various styles of Tai-Jutsu in the world today. Some concentrate on it as a sport, others on the traditional elements of the art whilst some clubs focus solely on the self defence aspects.

The essence of Tai-Jutsu is understanding the various ways of utilising the body as a weapon. This can include using effective strikes and kicks to specific targets and weak areas on the body or using a vast choice of grappling skills to restrain, throw and control an opponent. It takes time to fully harness such skills, but eventually develops into a complete and comprehensive combat system.

Tai-Jutsu is ideal for anyone as it develops technical competence in handling any attack. We pride ourselves on our friendly and informal atmosphere, yet maintain training in a traditional format.
